Thordis Erla Zoëga

Þórdís Erla Zoëga (b. 1988) is an Icelandic artist based in Reykjavík. She graduated from the audiovisual department at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam in 2012 and later completed a diploma in Web Development at Tækniskólinn in Reykjavík. Her background in both art and technology continues to shape her practice and the way she thinks about materials, light and digital culture.

Working across installation, sculpture, painting and video, Zoëga creates works that explore how light can transform our experience of space. Using colour-shifting materials, reflections and optical illusions, she investigates the relationship between technology, architecture and everyday life.

Since 2012, Zoëga has exhibited widely in Iceland and internationally, including in Reykjavík, Copenhagen, Helsinki, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Berlin and Basel. Her work has been shown at Reykjavík Art Museum, the National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavík Arts Festival, Gerðarsafn, Akureyri Art Museum, LÁ Art Museum and EMMA museum.

Public art is an important part of her practice. Recent commissions include a permanent artwork for the New National Hospital of Iceland and a large-scale façade installation for FORTUM in Espoo, Finland. Her work is held in the collections of Reykjavík Art Museum, the National Gallery of Iceland, LÁ Art Museum and EMMA – Espoo Museum of Modern Art in Finland.

Alongside her artistic practice, Zoëga has collaborated with architects, designers and brands on projects ranging from public spaces to exhibition design, including BIO EFFECT and Blue Lagoon Iceland.

Þórdís Erla Zoëga lives and works in Reykjavík, Iceland. She is represented by BERG Contemporary in Reykjavík and SPECTA in Copenhagen.
